Self-introduction: My name is Anna Chen. I’m a senior at Valley Christian High School in California. Born in Beijing, China, I moved to Canada with my parents when I was very young and now live in San Jose, California, USA. I have a wide range of interests, specialized in learning golf, swimming, dance, painting, photography and so on; I like to read and painting together, using words and brushes to focus on and describe every aspect of life. I love to study science and Technology, has won awards in various science and technology competitions. In high school, I explored engineering, Introduction to engineering design (IED) , and engineering principles (Poe) through the PLTW curriculum. IED taught me the engineering design process, general design principles and cutting-edge tools, and how to apply them to various hands-on tasks. In Poe, I discovered how engineers can influence the world through presentations, activities, and projects. These courses have enhanced my creativity, critical thinking and teamwork skills. In the summer of my 2023, with the help of my phd from Yale, I started a research project, examine how innovative approaches and emerging technologies, such as renewable solutions and green infrastructure, can be integrated into climate-resilient infrastructure to enhance adaptation and promote sustainability.
